Catch up on what I have been doing since the last episode and listen for my top tips to get back to marketing when you’ve had a break.

Tips for getting back to marketing
When something major happens in your business or your life sometimes you need to take a step back from your regular networking or social media or blog posts or whatever is the thing that you have been doing. But sooner or later you need to get back to marketing.
Don’t dwell on it, do not beat yourself up, this is marketing and content creation not your tax return, there is no immediate penalty for late filing. You are a human being and you’ve had to make other decisions about what to do with your time and energy.
Not too many people will have noticed the lack of your content. If you’ve got a back catalogue of blogs or videos, people will have been tapping into those and they may not even have realized that none of that was created this month.
Same content or different?
Think what you want to do the same and think what you want to do differently. If you want to talk essentially about the same things, how are you going to find the inspiration for new content? Have you been collecting great ideas on your phone for a while or scribbling things on post it notes as they have occurred to you, do you need to brainstorm ideas with a business buddy or put aside some time to create a plan for yourself?
If you had a break because it was hard doing marketing while also running the business, let’s just think about how you are going to manage the juggle of doing everything. How can you make it easy? Is there something you need to change in your business? Have you delegated some of your routine tasks so you can find the time to spend on marketing?
Do you need someone to help or hold you accountable to the marketing activities, and can you outsource some or all of it?
Launching something new?
If you are launching something entirely new in your business, and that’s the reason there has been a big gap in your marketing, I do recommend a more structured approach. I would plan the next quarter in week by week detail, think about your key messages and work out what content you are going to need. And don’t rush into it. You want to create a marketing plan that you can deliver sustainably, and you don’t want to be back feeling instantly overwhelmed and unable to do any marketing again. So if you’ve had a break better to make it a slightly longer break and come back doing it properly.
So there we have it, don’t feel bad for having taken a break from marketing, think about how you get back to it whether you are doing the same thing or something new – and think about what you need to put in place so you can do your marketing consistently in the future.
